Discover Scuba

Discover Scuba

In a Nutshell  In a Nutshell
Discover Scuba is a 3-hour (one tank) or half-day (two tanks) non-certification program for good swimmers, who are curious about the underwater world.
It starts at 8:30am and finishes around 11:30am or 1:30pm, respectively. Advance reservations are a must.
This is strictly for trying out scuba. There is minimal theory and just enough instruction to keep you safe and comfortable while offering a chance to see some otherworldly sights.

What to Expect  What to Expect
Scuba diving is exhilarating when you first try it, and most people who love the water find it great fun, but it has its dangers. In order to minimize these, we will thoroughly instruct you on the Dos and Don’ts by showing you a video, quizzing you on what you have learned, introduce you to the gear and practice some basic but essential skills in very shallow water.
We work with very small groups–only three people per instructor–so you will get lots of personal attention.
If you complete all of the steps successfully and feel comfortable and safe, we will take you on a small tour in about 20 feet of water. If that goes well and you have signed up for the second tank, we will after a snack break take you on a real dive to a maximum depth of 40 feet, where you will see marine animals, plants and corals.
Please note that if you cannot or do not want to complete any part of the program, we will bring you back to land safely, but then continue on with the rest of the group. You will not be eligible for a refund.

How to Prep  How to Prep
Make sure to review this medical form. If there are any questions you answer with Yes, you will need to take the form to a physician and get their clearance. This is very important! A Yes-answer without a doctor’s signature will disqualify you from participating and without being eligible for a refund!
If your eyesight is significantly diminished, let us know in advance! We might be able to supply you with a special mask, but we will have to specially prepare for that.
Wear your bathing suit and bring a towel. If your sunscreen includes oxybenzone or octinoxate, do not use it before entering the water. It will hurt the reef you want to admire! We have reef-safe sun screen for sale if you need some. Just ask us!
We will bring plenty of water and some small snacks. If you require anything special, please bring it with you.

Where to Go from Here  Where to go from Here
If you love scuba diving and would like to continue, you can add another day of training to become a certified Scuba Diver or an additional three days of training to become a certified Open Water Diver. If you cannot do this right away, you may present the Discover Scuba credentials you will be awarded to a dive center in the very near future for possible credit towards a certification program.
