Discover Snorkeling & Scuba

Discover Snorkeling & Scuba

In a Nutshell  In a Nutshell
Discover Snorkeling & Scuba is a custom program for poor or non-swimmers, who are curious about the ocean.
It starts at 8:30am and finishes around 12:30pm. Advance reservations are a must.
This is not a full swim class, nor is it a scuba certification program, but it will make you more confident in the water and–hopefully–whet your appetite for more!

What to Expect  What to Expect
We start with an introduction to good water habits and a lesson in floating and moving through the water with snorkel gear. This is followed by a snorkel tour to boost confidence and admire the wildlife. After a brief break with snacks and water we give you an introduction to underwater breathing, communicating and moving. We introduce you to the dive gear and explain safety rules before we take you on a tour in very shallow water. On this tour we only take two people per instructor, so that we can hold on to you at all times and keep you safe and happy.

Make sure to review this medical form. If there are any questions you answer with Yes, you will need to take the form to a physician and get their clearance. This is very important! A Yes-answer without a doctor’s signature will disqualify you from participating and without being eligible for a refund!
If your eyesight is significantly diminished, let us know in advance! We might be able to supply you with a special mask, but we will have to specially prepare for that.
Wear your bathing suit and bring a towel. If your sunscreen includes oxybenzone or octinoxate, do not use it before entering the water. It will hurt the reef you want to admire! We have reef-safe sun screen for sale if you need some. Just ask us!
We will bring plenty of water and some small snacks. If you require anything special, please bring it with you.

Where to Go from Here  Where to go from Here
If you did well and are here for another day, we might be able to take you on a full Discover Scuba. But most importantly, if you loved this experience, learn how to swim! Many YMCAs and neighborhood gyms offer swim classes for adults. If you vacation near the ocean or any other body of water, being able to swim gives you safe access to a whole slew of fun water sports. And who knows, perhaps one day you’ll even become a certified diver!
